About Us

If you were to ask most elementary school teachers, "Who are your best readers?" and "What do you feel has been the biggest contributor to their success?", the majority of them would respond with "It's my students whose parents took an active part in helping their child learn to read."

The challenge with this scenario, is that most parents don't.  Not because they don't want to, but because they don't feel they know how, or feel they have the tools to do so.  This is why 1-2-3 Reading was created.  To teach parents how to be part of their child's literacy learning experience.

Our Philosophy

It's true that many parents feel it is the teachers responsibility to teach their children how to read.  However, if you've ever tried to manage 20+ kids in a classroom through reading exercises, you can understand how kids start to have gaps in their learning.  This, of course, is not necessarily the fault of the teacher.  Some students truly need additional one to one support in learning to read.  Sometimes it is the a non-science based model or curriculum chosen by the teacher's school district which makes the teaching process extremely challenging for the educator and even harder to learn for the child.  Whatever the reason, many children have gaps in their reading education.  This is why so many students are reading below grade level.

To address these needs, 1-2-3 Reading has created science-based curriculums to educate and support parents to be part of the learning process of their children.  Now teachers don't have try to explain to the parent (with the latest literacy buzzwords) what their child could or should be doing.  Parents can simply work through exercises to 1. Identify gaps in learning and 2. Fill those gaps.  Involving parents in their child's reading education has many benefits: bonding time between parent and child, increased self-esteem in the life of the child, as well as working as a supportive team member with the teacher to take a little off of his or her plate.

When parents and teachers work as a team, both on and off of school campus, their is congruency in the child's learning, the child feels loved and supported, and the child progresses in the literacy education.  What starts off as a child who feels frustrated in their reading education turns into a child who loves to read, asks for more books, and who can't wait to end the day with their parent reading to each other.

If it sounds too good to be true... it's not.  1-2-3 Reading supports the teacher as the primary educator, the parent as the reading coach, and the child as the learner.  We hope that as you apply these solutions in the classroom and at home, you will see a shift in the child's ability to read as well as their self image.

Enjoy the journey!
